Welcome!
We’re hoping that you’ll join us for the inaugural Big Ideas Fest 2009, which will take place December 6th-9th, 2009 at the Ritz-Carlton in Half Moon Bay, California.
Several people have asked us why we are calling this a Fest. Why not just call it a conference? The answer: because this is a gathering where innovation is meant to be designed, shared, celebrated and rewarded. Those aren’t things that typically happen at a conference.
Many conferences I go to involve sitting for hours listening to others in a one-way flow of information (sounds like some schools I know, too). Whereas at the Big Ideas Fest, it’s both an opportunity to be inspired by engaging keynotes, see great examples of innovation in practice from rapid-fire presentations, and take part in an innovative design process where we’ll imagine, design, and prototype real-world solutions.
To reiterate, the Big Ideas Fest is not a conference of PowerPoint presentations and speeches, but an event where a broad group of stakeholders (teachers, faculty, researchers, administrators, trustees, students, parents and policy-makers), will be empowered to design for some of the most challenging educational dilemmas we face today.
Can we count you in?
