Steve has more than 20 years of experience in education, 17 of them running schools and designing educational programs. During Steve's tenure with Five Keys, he has expanded the school from serving 200 students a day to now having a daily enrollment of over 3000 students. Additionally, Five Keys has grown from operating primarily inside the SF County Jails to now having over 30 community locations (in partnership with CBOs) in San Francisco and Los Angeles, and operating inside the LA County Jails as well. Additionally, this year, Five Keys began running all of the Career Technical Education Programs for the Los Angeles Sheriff's Dept.

In 2001 Steve was named School Master of the Year for Sonoma County, and in 2014 Five Keys was named "Charter School of the Year" for Northern California. Steve consulted with the US Department of Education, on their 2010 publication, "Community Based Correctional Education", and on their 2012 Correctional Education Reentry Program Model.

Steve currently is a member of the Community Correction Partnership for San Francisco County. He holds a Master's Degree in Education with an emphasis on School Administration.
